Shab-e-Baraat

Shab-e-Baraat In The Light Of Hadiths

Shab-e-Baraat is the night of the 15th of Sha’ban.  On this special night, Muslims ask for mercy and blessings and ask Allah for forgiveness.  (Hadith 1390)Narrated by Abu Musa al-Ash’ari, who stated the Prophet ﷺ said: “Indeed, Allah looks at His creation on the night of the middle of Sha’ban and forgives all His creation, except for the one who associates partners with Him and the one who harbors hatred (mushahin).”

The same is narrated by Hadith 6642: A similar narration from Abdullah ibn Amr, which has been graded as Sahih (authentic) by scholars.

These Hadiths give a view of what Hazrat Muhammad PBUH said and clarified to his Ummah. Allah’s mercy is open and available for every Muslim, especially during this beautiful night. Allah opens the doors of his forgiveness and grants forgiveness to those who sincerely ask for it. A heartfelt tauba is all it takes to be among his loved ones.

Allah loves those who repent, and a sincere heart is always welcomed by him. Allah keeps those close who feel sorry and try not to do wrong deeds again in life. An apology alone is not enough if there is no change. With every apology comes a change in self. The whole mindset must change. Muslims must work on getting better. Asking for forgiveness and not doing wrong again intentionally is all it takes to be forgiven. Allah wants you to be a genuinely good human being, not to just pretend, but to be one. Only a person who commits shirk and has hatred in his heart will not be forgiven.

Recommended Acts Of Worship:

Muslims can voluntarily worship in the following ways, even though it’s not mandatory, as written below:

  • Performing nafl prayers voluntarily
  • Reciting and understanding the Quran
  • Making a heartfelt dua and asking for mercy
  • Sending Durood-e-Pak on Prophet Muhammad PBUH
  • Doing dhikr of Allah.

Reading the Quran and understanding it is an important part of being a Muslim.  You must take Online Quran Classes and learn recitation with Nazra Quran. These good practices can help you be on the right path.

Praying on any day is acceptable, so if you want to pray a little extra on this day, it is okay to do so. Doing dhikr and making a connection with Allah is good on any day. It’s a good day and time to feel a little closer to Allah and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad PBUH.

Fasting After Shab-e-Baraat:

Narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib, the Prophet (PBUH) stated: “When it is the night of the middle of Sha’ban, spend its night in prayer and observe a fast on that day. For Allah descends at sunset on that night to the lowest heaven and says: ‘Is there no one who will ask Me for forgiveness, that I may forgive him? Is there no one who will ask Me for provision so that I may provide for him?'”

Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim narrate that Aisha bint Abu Bakr said the Prophet ﷺ used to fast frequently during Sha’ban.

It proves that fasting during Sha’ban is Sunnah.

It is not mentioned specifically on the 15th of Sha’ban, but it is a Sunnah to fast in Sha’ban.

Ummul Momineen Aisha (RA) narrated that the Prophet (PBUH) spent a part of this night in lengthy prostration and visited the Baqi cemetery to pray for the forgiveness of the deceased Muslims.

Conclusion

Shab-e-Baraat is the best time to repent and ask for forgiveness. It is a night of blessings and rewards. You can increase voluntary worship. Muslims must keep their hearts clean and pure and work on improving their inner self and thought processes through proper spiritual and religious practices. In a Muslim’s heart, there is no place for hatred or shirk. Rather than performing cultural customs, you must read the Quran and Hadiths and follow what is truly guided by Allah and Prophet Muhammad PBUH.
